How Gays and Lesbians are shown in the media

I believe that gays and Lesbians are stereotyped in the media and other form of entertainment and the media trys to annihilate the gay and lesbians on TV by making fun of them for being who they are and making character of them to laugh at them for liking the same gender man being a heterosexual and woman being lesbian to show that they don't approve of it.
Why do you think that gays and lesbians are made fun of in the media?
do you think it's ok to be gay or lesbian and why?
why does the media try to get rid of gays and lesbian?

  3. To answers your questions:

-Before I begin, I would like to say that this is only my personal opinion and I do not mean to offend anyone.

    1) Why do you think that gays and lesbians are made fun of in the media?--

Honestly? We all know that stereotypes are offensive to specific groups of individuals but they do make people laugh sometimes. Let's stop only focusing on the gay comedy and widen our view for a moment. If we look at any type of offensive label or stereotype we will see jokes being made out of them. There are many types of jokes that many famous comedians use. Some focus on specific races(black, white, brown/Asian, etc.), cultures, religion, etc. If you watch Russell Peters, you will notice that 90% of his jokes are racist.( I will not mention any, most likely you have already seen his shows). In conclusion, although stereotypical jokes towards specific groups (in this case, homosexuals/lesbians) are offensive, they still make people laugh. By the way, I do not support offensive jokes, but honestly speaking, I cannot say that I haven't laughed at some of them. Who hasn't?

    2) Do you think it's ok to be gay or lesbian and why?

-Homosexuality can be considered right or wrong. This depends on the background of the person viewing it. Things such as religion, culture, family, friends, scientific intelligence, etc. can effect a person's view of homosexuality.
I will try to answer your question as if I was a person with no culture, religion, family, etc. Looking at it from a neutral point of view, I would say that there is NOTHING wrong with being homosexual. I for one am not gay, but that does not mean being gay is wrong. I'm not black, does that mean I should be offensive towards black people? No. In the end of the day, it is the person's choice to be homosexual. Who am I to judge. Religiously speaking, my religion sees homosexuality as a sin. So does every other religion I know of( Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, etc.).

    3) Why does the media try to get rid of gays and lesbian?

-This is false. Where would you get that idea. It is the other way around. In society, many people do not accept homosexuals, but in the media they are quite the cash magnet. Why do you think people watch Ellen's shows? Because she is a good show host and has a good sense of humor?. Mostly it is her sexual orientation that lures the public to view her shows. In conclusion, the majority of the public may be offensive towards gays or lesbians, but that is because of stigma. When the gays get up on sage and express their true feelings and personalities, people realize that they are no different than the average human being.

I hope that answers your questions. Great post Ayyub.

  6. I believe the homosexual couples are put down because we were not brought up with the idea of gays and lesbians. Since this new world is being created by homosexual couples, there is a new world being born. This new world will affect this world and therefore there would be a change, a drastic change. We all know, as an individual it is VERY difficult to agree to a change in our life. So imagine, the media is basically a whole bunch of people and their opinion's. If these people do not accept change in their lives, they will not accept homosexuals. It's ok to be a lesbian or gay, maybe you had a tough time with your mother and you feel that women aren't your type, and men is what interests you. Then there's nothing wrong, being gay. Vice versa for lesbians. There is nothing wrong in looking for happiness in your life. I believe the media makes fun of gays and lesbians because they have no life. It is absolutely wrong and it should be put to a stop! When nothing is a "HOT" news, they will immediately look for something to spice up the entertainment for the people. Media should consider the fact that homosexuals have feelings and they are human beings! Homosexuals and Heterosexuals is the same thing as Black people and White people. There are a few differences. However, we should learn how to move on and accept new things and changes in our lives.

  7. Why do you think that gays and lesbians are made fun of in the media?

Because its something unnatural (according to the media) so they don't want it to be acceptable, thus by making fun of them they put fear into others in hopes of preventing them from turning LGBT

do you think it's ok to be gay or lesbian and why?

In all honesty, I don't. I don't dislike them, if someones LGBT, let them be, that wouldn't affect, but in terms of whether or not if I think its right, I would say it isn't.

why does the media try to get rid of gays and lesbian?

Religion, traditions, reproduction, fear of confusing children, the list goes on.

  8. being homosexual or lesbian does not matter to me. it is your choice to be gay or lesbian and it is not up to me to jugde u on that choice because in the end of the day it does not affect me at all. the biggest reason the midea is try to rid LGBT is because of religion!

  10. if you disapprove of people being gays and lesbians how would you feel if they are able to get married in society?

would this change your view differently on gays and lesbians as a whole or would you still keep the same ideas you have about gays and lesbians

  11. Pretend that Mr. Media here is like any individual with beliefs, values, opinions and biases. Therefore gays and lesbians are targeted in the media because the media believes that their sexual orientation is wrong and that they are deviating from the stereotypes that have already been established by media hence why they are made “fun” of.
Whether I believe if homosexuality is wrong or not isn’t really relevant but the answer to that would be no. Although I believe this, it doesn’t give anyone a right to inflict violence and outward hatred to anyone because we are all God’s creation and he will judge us, not other people.
For the reason as to why media tries to get rid of gays and lesbians is because the individuals who have come out have “rebelled” against the beliefs of media and so they must be punished as a result. That’s why we see “hate crimes” all over the world.

  12. i also agree with mariamaa that being gay or lesbian effect a person. But i disagree with ayuubs question about gay and lesbians geting married.

  13. i agree with mariammaa that some people hate gays and want to hurt them which is a hate crime but I also agree with khalid about gays and lesbians getting married because people would sterotype them more and the media shows gay couples that are married that these people are not normal because they like their own gender which is why people sterotype them.

  14. overall to me it does not matter to me if a person is gay or lesbian and they should have freedom since their human like everyone else should and people shouldn't hated them for choosing what they want.
