That's right! If the media has taught me another valuable life lesson it's this: Gay's can not defend themselves, they must have a mob of super friends to save the day and right the wrongs of the homo hating community. Gay's are apparently like deer; tiny, big eyed, silky haired fawns who skid away at any wrong look or movement. like that guy, you may know him from Glee, if you don't his name is Kurt and he is generic gay character number one. Like usual beefy, pea brain jock threatens Bambi over here and he quietly takes the abuse while shaking like a little leaf on a windy day. Generic hero number five sees this and he can't take it, being the humanitarian he is he tells beefy jock to step off. In the heat of the moment every background character steps in and puts that bully in his place. See gays its okay, you don't even need to lift your lady like fingers! Also when a gay is being verbally abused and he is alone, he quietly suppresses him self, making a face most similar to a puppy just punted five yards. All in all the media shows gays are just like women, useless and defenseless, Yay! at least we aren't alone anymore ladies. So I was thinking...
Do you think Gay's are less accepted because they are depicted in such a way by the media? If gays were not segregated from the other guys and given a specific image would they become less unnacaptable? what do you think gauchies?
Well... He does try to stick up for himself - at least once - but, this is the cliched result.

The homophobic football player was gay all along? Never saw that one coming. Way to go Glee! Keep reinforcing the stereotype that really homophobic people are just hiding their true sexuality.
Yes gay's are depicted in these types of weak and fragile characterstics because of the media. Now a days on the tv all we see are the femimine gays who don't know how to defend themselves from the typical homophobic jock. We don't accept them because we feel like if there not putting up such a fight to defend themselves then why should we respect them. Its just a basic law of fundamentals, if a predator see's that a victim is weak then they will automatically react on it. They would be less unacceptable in the sense that people would see that its okay to be gay and there not human beings that take all sorts of crap just because of there sexual preferance. If gays had been given a certain image and not segregated from other men then they would be equals with diffrent aspects on life, nothing more, nothing less.
ReplyDeleteThis post is great. I think that this is the reason behind homophobia in young guys. They are not afraid to be seen as "homosexuals", they are afraid to be labeled as "weak". Because being gay means that you are weak and cannot defend yourself( according to the media), many people avoid that label. Usually by saying things like "NO HOMO" and so on.
ReplyDeleteYes i do think that homosexuals are less accepted because of the media! if gays were not segregated from the other guys they wouldnt be as unacceptable as they are right now i think.
ReplyDeletei think that the problem is that a lot of people don't really takes gay serious. They think that, gay should be treated bad like as if they committed a big crime and should be held responsible for it. In the future there is a good change that more people will come out of the closet. When there will be a majority of gay and lesbian then people won't be that mean to them because they will be used to seeing a lot of gay and lesbian around. Think about it when colour people came to North America first, they had to face so many problems. Many people treated them so badly because they were different. But now since there are a lot of colour people, it is not that bad compared to many years ago. There are some people who are racist but not a lot compared to long time ago. Since there are less gay now, they have to face problems but who know in the future when there are a lot of them, they might not have to.
