Okay, so lately when I have been watching TV, I noticed something. At first I didn't think much of it, but as time went on it really got out of control! Ladies I don't know about you, but when I eat chocolate it DEFINITELY doesn't look as sexy as that lady! In fact lets be brutally honest, women eating chocolate is probably in the top five most unattractive thing a woman can do. The media is so pathetic, it really makes me laugh! even when it's depicting something as simple and delectiable as chocolate it objectifies women. Like honestly do you see a three hundred pound, bearded trucker sucking on a chocolate like hes about to be thrown over the edge? It also personifies that women are the only ones who like chocolate! please no one can deny chocolate! anyways maybe I'm just jealous that I don't look that sexy while eating a kit-kat.What do you guys think?

On a more serious note, ya the media tries to objectify everything but I think chocolate is an interesting case.
ReplyDeleteChocolate has always been considered an aphrodisiac, so there is some reason why their chocolate eating looks so sexual (though it IS sexist that they're always females, I can eat chocolate WAAAY hotter than they can).
You know, what ever happened to the olden day commercials where you have a bunch of kids enjoying a bueno or a kinder!?! I miss those times :'( but litterally now whenever there is a commercial about candy its always presented by a mother or a young woman, that looks to be anerexsic, enjoying a tiny bite. seriously why not take a starving hobo that probably needs some food, dress him up in some nice cloths and film his happines eating a chocolate or even better use regular people that enjoy the product and let them explain whats so great about that specific brand.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments made before me, but I just want to add something. You say that images like these, "personifies that women are the only ones who like chocolate!" I disagree. Its not that women like chocolate more than men, (ex. Samuel), it may be the media's way of killing two birds with one stone, appealing to the male demographic and not losing its female base.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, who doesn't love chocolate, its the main source of happiness in my life. Women eating in general is not as attractive as the media makes it seem, its just as unattractive as women burping. Not all men find it unattractive, but in my opinion its just not the cutest thing i've seen a girl do." Women are the only ones who like chocolate!", I strongly disagree with this statement because I know many guys who are obsessed with a chocolate high and I myself love the taste of warm coca melting in your mouth.
Chocolate is sexual in the sense that it is smooth and silky, its been used over time as a sexual tool and it makes sense that the media see's that women eating chocolate would be sexy. Overall chocolate is sexy in the way it tastes and feels in your mouth, but imaging and 300 pound fat man eating chocolate would make me want to gag.
